We stopped for a late lunch and we rewarded with a fabulous calzone. The dessert was incredible, we had cannoli and lemoncello cake. Luigi was our waiter and provided us with excellent service!

Nice place on the side of the harbour. Food was ok. But I agree with other people that the price was more expensive than necessary! Incredible to pay 10 dollar for a double espresso which wasn't even a good one! Won't come back!

Not very kid friendly, more of an adult place for sure. The service is slow and not much of a menu for kids - very expensive Italian-Style pizza.

We went to LaFontana tonite for dinner. I don't know if it was a "off night" but the service and food was LOUSY. We were left waiting forever for our food and when the waiter finally did appear he said that he put our order in late. Not once did he offer to refill drinks however when we did get another waiter we were told "sorry we are out of tea". We even had to ask yet another waiter for bread. The lasagna was pathetic and some of the worst I have ever had. No offer of parm cheese. Bland and if it had any meat I would have been hard pressed to find it. If the waiter had EVER some back I would have sent it back but after waiting for close to 45 minutes for our food I ate it. I can count the number of times that we haven't left a tip. This was one and we will never go back and spread the word.

We can't comment on the food -- we never got waited on -- after 25 minutes of sitting at a table, we still had not met our server. The bus boy was nice when we asked if he could find our server. He tried to find him. After 10 minutes, the manager (who was very nice was kind enough to come by and tell us our server would come soon. 15 minutes later, we still had not seen our server. We finally got up and walked out. This is unfortunate. We won't go back, of course. It's a shame that something as simple as showing up at a table to even get drink orders was not something that this restaurant could handle last night. I don't know if this is the norm, or that we were just unlucky.

Im in love! The food, the evening candle lit atmosphere, the man on the piano, the server who is here from Italy only the last 8 months.. I feel like I'm traveling in Italia! We had an excellent meal, and service. The pizzas look so good!! Real fresh and Italian. This is a must visit place! We week return again and again. Others who are eating here also say it's their favorite.

Spaghetti andg meatballs good. Sauce no better than store bought. No bread offered with meal. Bar service ok. Mediocre experience.

This place is the truth! Everything was awesome from start to finish. The fried mozzarella came with some amazing homemade marinara. The bruschetta was fresh and delicious. The wine was tasty. The pizza was all I had hoped for. Service was exemplary and there was live music to enjoy with our wine after dinner! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone vacationing in Hilton Head that has a large crowd to please.

Yes, it sits on the harbor; the outdoor seating is lovely; there is a piano man; the inside is dark and attractive. But, while the food is good, it isn't exceptional. It's the typical veal and chicken parm American version of Italian food. I really liked the tomato sauce but my pasta was overcooked so it was a bit of a mash of pasta rather than al dente. This is not a restaurant to avoid. It meets the needs of a more upscale version of basic Italo-American cuisine but I wouldn't say it's special or memorable.

Showed up without reservations and they kindly found a spot for our family of 5 on a busy night. The food was outstanding as was the service. Would recommend w/o hesitation.

Really nice atmosphere but there are other places with similar settings and much better dining experience. Just completely mediocre in every way and overpriced. Got a mixed drink that wasn't mixed right, pizzas are pretty poor, service is spotty (very slow and they debated with us when asking for more basil), portions are a bit small for the price in some plates. Update - 20 minutes and counting, still waiting on check

Food is awesome service is great. Came on a busy friday night and not a bad thing too say about this place. Kenny our waiter did a fine job. Oh yeah try the lobster ravioli

Amazing Italian!! So delicious. Had the giant tortellini special and have never had such a wonderful blend of flavors. The salmon appetizer was incredible. And rounding off was the limoncello cake. Highly recommend!

Went there once will not return. Paid $18 for a plate of gnocchi and got no bread or salad for that price. I could have got that at home for less and had salad and bread.

Please don't waste your time or money. Not worth either, plastic cups. Paper menus. Oil for bread, gone bad. Stale salad croutons. Vodka pasta "made by chefs from Naples" "signature dish" Gross! Nt worth 1 star, would never go back.

Had dinner for four. Very fresh pasta soft and tender cooked just right. Sauces and meats (veal) were cooked to perfection. Waiter was well informed on food and wine. Gave us great ideas and suggestions on the food

The food and service were ok; probably wouldn't go back again- but the convenience of walking from the Disney resort was why we chose this place.

The service was incredibly slow. It took us over 2 hours to have a mediocre dinner. The veal was salty and the gnocchi was tart. Very disappointing

The restaurant is okay. Of course it is more expensive than necessary, and service wasn't amazing, but both of these were expected. The pizza and bread were both pretty decent, and the salad we got was good, but small.

We vacationed here and stumbled upon this gem in Hilton Head. The food was fantastic and the staff are exactly the same! The owner is from Naples Italy and knows his trade very well. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and we will be back and visiting Giuseppe! Mangia Mangia

La Fontana was pretty good. Service was good (we ate at 5 because we brought our 7 month old). Started with calamari and fried cheese. I'd skip the calamari, it wasn't anything to write home about. For dinner I had the lobster ravioli which was very good (definitely recommend this dish, though if you're really hungry I'd go with something else since the portion is small). My wife has the prosciutto and arugula pizza. This is a must if you visit! The pizza was so good and well worth the price. All in all, good food and good service. Like most places some dishes are better than others.

Had pizzas and salads out on the terrace. Great tasting. Would have been five stars but it was clear they were short handed. We didn't really mind waiting and our server was fine. Try the pizza Bianca, it was great.

Nice place on the marina with outside / inside seating. Great for a drink and couple of apps but don't recommend for dinner with the family. Our kids had the pizza and it was very good but the dinners left much to be desired. Others complained about the staffing, we didn't have any issues. What i do strongly agree with is the cook lines heavy handed use of the salt. Damn I swear even the water was salty. Fried mozz was very good but again salty. Veal piccata was good but salty. Lobster ravioli was very disappointing and expensive. Ceaser salad was good but would not order with chicken again. Very dry - im sure its precooked, cut, bagged and kept in fridge until ordered. Anyhow we were not overly thrilled what so ever. Look elsewhere.

Very nice restaurant. Good menu for kids. We enjoyed the Lasagna and Lobster Ravioli. If you are looking for a good family friendly restaurant. Give it a try. Nice location on the harbor in Shelter Cove.

Great outside bar on football day. $3 bud lights and house wines as well as half off apps and pizza. Great bartender Steve who makes everybody feel at home. Very authentic thin crust pizza. Their white pizza was very tasty but overpowered by garlic. Their red sauce pizzas were spot on though. Portions are small so plan accordingly ( even the pizza)

The atmosphere is great, the selection and volume of music is perfect. The food was fairly good, not terrific. They need to ease off the salt shaker. Service was leisurely-- we had to find our own server who I think was the manager. All in all it was fine; however some of the kitchen workers came out onto the patio on break and started "moo-o-o"- ing at women nearby. Really rude and disruptive to an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. For the steep prices here, someone needs to tighten ship.

Excellent! Great god great atmosphere and finally a waterfront place at shelter cove that's truly on the water!

Service was fine and food ok but we were surprised when the bill came to discover that the three of us who ordered hot tea were charged $5.00 each. This is for hot water and a Lipton's tea bag. The manager made no effort to adjust the price. There were 10 ladies who will not be going there again.

My family and I dined here on our last night in Hilton Head. The food was okay,. My husband and I had the special shrimp, scallops and pappardelle pasta scampi style. The seafood was good but the pasta was awful. They didn't season the water likely when they cooked it. For a $30 dish we were not at all overwhelmed. The salads were very small. The service was ok. We won't be going back next year.

Nice restaurant on the water, view of the harbor. In an active community of other stores and shops. Walkable and bike-able! The food was fresh and flavorful and the service excellent. Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to Hilton Head and will certainly be back in the future!

The service was absolutely terrible and the food was overpriced for what we got and the service offered. Dinner took three and a half laborious hours with the worst service I've had in the area for a while. Yes apologies were offered and excuses given and their resolution was a free desert that we did not want instead of perhaps two of our four meal s. We were not the only ones experiencing this service. As long as they are going to charge what they are for Italian food go to Umbra or Michael Anthony's and get great service and better food!

Below average service, food and wine list. Would recommend other choices if possible.

Just a so-so experience. Everything is ala carte so it can get pricey. Food was okay but not at all special. My wife asked if she could have meat sauce on gnocchi instead of tomato marinara. Server said yes for a $5 upcharge. We've never heard a response like that before.Topped it off by seating a couple with a dog next to us. There are too many good restaurants at Hilton Head to bother with this one again.

Very very good meatball pizza. Calamari was pretty good too. But the wait staff was really terrific. Rick was our bartender and he really made it a good time!

I was reluctant to try the place given the location. However, I'm really glad we did. It was dinnertime and Chef G was working the host stand. Despite not having reservations and having a (well behaved) three year old, we were seated at one of the best tables outside by the water as requested. The service we experienced upon arrival was matched with the dinner service and surpassed by the food quality. Those looking for an Olive Garden chain style dinner are in for an eye opener to the possibilities of Italian food and those accustomed to European Italian won't be disappointed.

The food and service were excellent!!!!! This is a new restaurant in the area and is one to check out! Veal was extremely tender, bread is made fresh and delicious and the sauce is terrific.........both the regular tomato and the vodka sauce. If you are in the area and are looking for Italian food, don't miss this restaurant!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
